[KJV] And Gilead's1568 wife802 bare3205(8799) him sons1121; and his wife's802 sons1121 grew up1431(8799), and they thrust out1644(8762) Jephthah3316, and said559(8799) unto him, Thou shalt not inherit5157(8799) in our father's1 house1004; for thou art the son1121 of a strange312 woman802.

[KJV] And it was so, that when the children1121 of Ammon5983 made war3898(8738) against Israel3478, the elders2205 of Gilead1568 went3212(8799) to fetch3947(8800) Jephthah3316 out of the land776 of Tob2897:

[KJV] And they said559(8799) unto Jephthah3316, Come3212(8798), and be our captain7101, that we may fight3898(8735) with the children1121 of Ammon5983.

[KJV] And Jephthah3316 said559(8799) unto the elders2205 of Gilead1568, Did not ye hate8130(8804) me, and expel1644(8762) me out of my father's1 house1004? and why are ye come935(8804) unto me now when ye are in distress6887(8804)?

[KJV] And the elders2205 of Gilead1568 said559(8799) unto Jephthah3316, Therefore we turn again7725(8804) to thee now, that thou mayest go1980(8804) with us, and fight3898(8738) against the children1121 of Ammon5983, and be our head7218 over all the inhabitants3427(8802) of Gilead1568.

[KJV] And Jephthah3316 said559(8799) unto the elders2205 of Gilead1568, If ye bring me home again7725(8688) to fight3898(8736) against the children1121 of Ammon5983, and the LORD3068 deliver5414(8804) them before6440 me, shall I be your head7218?

[KJV] And the elders2205 of Gilead1568 said559(8799) unto Jephthah3316, The LORD3068 be witness8085(8802) between us, if we do6213(8799) not so according to thy words1697. {witness...: Heb. the hearer between us}

[KJV] Then Jephthah3316 went3212(8799) with the elders2205 of Gilead1568, and the people5971 made7760(8799) him head7218 and captain7101 over them: and Jephthah3316 uttered1696(8762) all his words1697 before6440 the LORD3068 in Mizpeh4709.

[KJV] And Jephthah3316 sent7971(8799) messengers4397 unto the king4428 of the children1121 of Ammon5983, saying559(8800), What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come935(8804) against me to fight3898(8736) in my land776?

[KJV] And the king4428 of the children1121 of Ammon5983 answered559(8799) unto the messengers4397 of Jephthah3316, Because Israel3478 took away3947(8804) my land776, when they came up5927(8800) out of Egypt4714, from Arnon769 even unto Jabbok2999, and unto Jordan3383: now therefore restore those lands again7725(8685) peaceably7965.

[KJV] And said559(8799) unto him, Thus saith559(8804) Jephthah3316, Israel3478 took not away3947(8804) the land776 of Moab4124, nor the land776 of the children1121 of Ammon5983:

[KJV] Then the Spirit7307 of the LORD3068 came upon Jephthah3316, and he passed over5674(8799) Gilead1568, and Manasseh4519, and passed over5674(8799) Mizpeh4708 of Gilead1568, and from Mizpeh4708 of Gilead1568 he passed over5674(8804) unto the children1121 of Ammon5983.

[KJV] And Jephthah3316 vowed5087(8799) a vow5088 unto the LORD3068, and said559(8799), If thou shalt without fail5414(8800) deliver5414(8799) the children1121 of Ammon5983 into mine hands3027,

[KJV] And Jephthah3316 came935(8799) to Mizpeh4709 unto his house1004, and, behold, his daughter1323 came out3318(8802) to meet7125(8800) him with timbrels8596 and with dances4246: and she was his only child3173; beside her he had neither son1121 nor176 daughter1323. {beside...: or, he had not of his own either son or daughter: Heb. of himself}
