LukeChapter 23
And the entire multitude of them rose up and led Him before  1Pilate.
And they began to accuse Him, saying, We found this man  1perverting our nation and forbidding people to pay taxes to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ, a King.
And Pilate asked Him, saying, Are You the King of the Jews? And answering him, He said,  1It is as you say.
And Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, I find no fault in this man.
But they were vehement, saying, He stirs up the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judea, beginning from  1Galilee even to this place.
And when Pilate heard this, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.
And when he realized that He was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him up to Herod, who also himself was in Jerusalem in those days.
And when Herod saw Jesus, he rejoiced greatly, for he had wanted to see Him for a considerable time, because he had heard about Him, and was hoping to see some sign done by Him.
And he questioned Him with  1many words, but He answered him  2nothing.
And the chief priests and the scribes stood by, vehemently accusing Him.
And Herod with his soldiers, having despised Him and mocked Him, threw around Him splendid clothing and sent Him back to Pilate.
And both Herod and Pilate became friends with one another on that very day, for they had previously been at enmity toward each other.
And Pilate, calling together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
Said to them, You have brought this man to me as one who  1turns the people away, and behold, I have examined Him before you and found no fault in this man regarding the accusations you bring against Him.
No, neither has Herod, for he sent Him back to us, and behold, nothing worthy of death has been done by Him.
I will therefore discipline Him and release Him.
1Now he was obliged to release to them one prisoner at the feast.
But they cried out all together, saying, Take this man away and release to us Barabbas.
He was one who, for a certain insurrection that occurred in the city and for murder, had been thrown into the prison.
But Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again;
But they continued to shout, saying, Crucify, crucify Him!
But he said to them a third time, Why, what evil has this man done? I have found no cause of death in Him; I will therefore discipline Him and release Him.
But they pressed him with loud voices, asking that He be  1crucified, and their voices prevailed.
And Pilate  1gave sentence that their request be carried out,
And he released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, whom they asked for; but Jesus he delivered up to their will.
And as they led Him away, they laid hold of  1Simon, a certain Cyrenian, coming from the country, and they placed the cross upon him to carry it behind Jesus.
And a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting Him followed Him.
But Jesus turned to them and said,  1Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep over Me, but weep over yourselves and over your children.
For behold, the days are coming in which they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs which have not borne, and the breasts which have not nourished.
Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us! and to the hills, Cover us!
For if they do these things with the  1tree full of sap, what will happen with the one that is dry?
And two others also, who were criminals, were led with Him to be executed.
And when they came to the place called The  1Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and one on the left.
And Jesus said, Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing. And dividing His garments, they cast lots.
And the people stood by, looking on. And the rulers also sneered, saying, He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, the Chosen One!
And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him and offering Him  1vinegar,
And saying, If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself!
And there was also an inscription over  1Him: This Is The King Of The JEWS.
And one of the criminals who were hanged there blasphemed Him, saying, Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!
But the other, answering, rebuked him and said, Do you not even fear God, since you are in the same  1judgment?
And we justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for what we did, but this Man has done nothing  1amiss.
1And he said, Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.
And He said to him,  1Truly I say to you, Today you shall be with Me in  2Paradise.
And it was now about the  1sixth hour, and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour,
1The sun's light failing; and the  2veil of the temple was split down the middle.
And crying with a loud voice, Jesus said, Father, into Your hands  1I commit My spirit. And saying this, He expired.
Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this man was righteous.
And all the crowds who came together at this spectacle, when they beheld the things that happened, returned, beating their breasts.
And all those who knew Him, and the women who accompanied Him from Galilee, stood at a distance, observing these things.
And behold, there was a man named  1Joseph, who was a member of the Council, and a good and righteous man
(This man had not consented to their counsel and action), from Arimathea, a city of the Jews, who was expecting the kingdom of God.
This man came to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.
And he took it down and wrapped it in a fine linen cloth, and  1laid Him in a tomb hewn in the rock, where no one had ever lain.
And it was the day of  1preparation, and the Sabbath was  2coming on.
And the women who had come together with Him out of Galilee followed after and beheld the tomb and how His body was laid.
And they returned and prepared spices and ointment. And on the Sabbath they  1rested according to the commandment.

LukeChapter 24
Now on the  1first day of the week, at early dawn,  2they  3came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared.
And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb;
But when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.
And while they stood perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in  1dazzling clothing.
And they became frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, and the men said to them, Why are you seeking the living One among the dead?
He is not here but has been  1raised. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,
Saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise up.
And they remembered His words.
And returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
Now they were Mary the Magdalene and Joanna and  1Mary the mother of James and the rest of the women with them, who told these things to the apostles.
And these words appeared  1to them as  2nonsense, and they did not believe them.
But Peter rose up and ran to the tomb; and stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths alone, and he went away to his own home, marveling at what had happened.
And behold, two of them were going on the same day to a village named Emmaus, which was sixty  1stadia away from Jerusalem.
And they were talking to each other concerning all these things which had occurred.
And while they were talking and discussing, Jesus Himself drew near and  1went with them.
But their eyes were kept from recognizing Him.
And He said to them, What are these words which you are exchanging with one another while you are walking? And they stood still, looking sad.
And one of them, Cleopas by name, answered and said to Him, Do You alone dwell as a stranger in Jerusalem and not know the things which have taken place in it in these days?
And He said to them, What things? And they  1said to Him, The things concerning Jesus the Nazarene, who was a  2Prophet powerful in work and word before God and all the people;
And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him up to the sentence of death and crucified Him.
But we were hoping that He was the One who was about to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all these things, it is now going on the third day since these things took place.
But moreover some women from among us amazed us. Being at the tomb early
And not finding His body, they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels, who said that He is living.
And some of those with us went to the tomb and found it even as the women also said, but they did not see Him.
And He said to them, O  1foolish and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!
Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and  1enter into His glory?
And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, He explained to them clearly in  1all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.
And they drew near to the village where they were going, and He acted as though He would go farther.
And they constrained Him, saying, Stay with us, because it is near evening and the day is already gone by. And He went in to stay with them.
And as He reclined at table with them, He took the loaf and blessed it, and having broken it, He began handing it to them.
And their eyes were  1opened, and they recognized Him; and  2He disappeared from them.
And they said to one another, Was not our heart burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was opening to us the Scriptures?
And they rose up that very hour and returned to  1Jerusalem, and they found the eleven and those with them assembled together,
Saying, The Lord really has been raised and has appeared to Simon.
And they related the things that occurred on the road, and how He was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
And as they were speaking these things, He Himself stood in their midst and said to them, Peace to you.
But they were terrified and became frightened and thought they beheld a  1spirit.
And He said to them, Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your heart?
See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have  1flesh and bones as you behold Me having.
And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.
And while they still  1did not believe for joy and were marveling, He said to them, Do you have anything here to eat?
And they handed Him a piece of broiled fish;
And He took it and ate before them.
And He said to them, These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all the things written in the  1Law of Moses and the Prophets and Psalms concerning Me must be fulfilled.
Then He  1opened their mind to understand the Scriptures;
And He said to them, Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise up from the dead on the third day,
And that repentance for  1forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses of these things.
And behold, I send forth the  1promise of My Father upon you; but as for you,  2stay in the city until you  3put on power from on high.
And He led them out as far as  1Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them.
And while He blessed them, He parted from them and was  1carried up into heaven.
And they worshipped Him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,
And were continually in the temple, blessing  1God.
