First CorinthiansChapter 13
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels but do not have love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
And if I have the gift of prophecy and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
And if I dole out all my possessions to feed others, and if I 1deliver up my body 2that I may boast, but do not have love, I profit nothing.
1Love suffers long. Love is kind; it is not jealous. Love does not brag and is not puffed up;
It does not behave unbecomingly and does not seek its own things; it is not provoked and does not take account of evil;
It does not rejoice because of unrighteousness, but rejoices with the 1truth;
It 1covers all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
Love 1never falls away. But whether prophecies, they will be rendered useless; or tongues, they will cease; or knowledge, it will be rendered useless.
For we know in part, and we prophesy in part;
But 1when that which is 2complete comes, 3that which is in part will be rendered useless.
1When I was a 2child, I spoke as a child, I thought as a child, I 3reasoned as a child; 4since I have become a man, I have done away with childish things.
For 1now we see 2in a mirror 3obscurely, but at 4that time face to face; 1now I know in part, but at 4that time I will fully know even as also I was fully known.
Now there abide 1faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
First CorinthiansChapter 14
1Pursue love, and 2desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may 3prophesy.
1For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God; for no one hears, but in his spirit he speaks mysteries.
But he who prophesies speaks 1building up and encouragement and consolation to men.
He who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but he who prophesies 1builds up the church.
I desire that you all speak in tongues, but especially that you would prophesy; and greater is he who prophesies than he who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, that the church may receive building up.
But now, brothers, if I come to you speaking in tongues, what will I profit you, unless I speak to you either in revelation or in knowledge or in prophecy or in teaching?
Yet even 1lifeless things, whether flute or harp, in giving a sound, if they give 2no distinction in the tones, how will what is played on the flute or on the harp be known?
For also if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who will prepare himself for battle?
So also you, unless you give with the tongue a word easy to understand, how will what is being said be known? For you will be speaking into the air.
There are perhaps many kinds of 1voices in the world, and not one is 2without significance.
If then I do not know the 1meaning of the voice, I will be to him who is speaking a barbarian, and he who is speaking a 2barbarian to me.
So also you, since you are zealous of 1spirits, seek that you may 2excel for the 3building up of the church.
Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.
For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my 1mind is unfruitful.
What then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray 1also 2with the mind; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing 1also 2with the mind.
Otherwise if you bless with the spirit, how shall he who fills the place of the 1unlearned in tongues say the 2Amen at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying?
For you give thanks well, but the other is not 1built up.
I thank God, I speak in tongues more than all of you,
But in the church I would rather speak 1five words 2with my mind, that I might instruct others also, than 1ten thousand words in a tongue.
Brothers, do not be 1children in your 2understanding, but in malice be babes and in your understanding be 3full-grown.
In the 1law it is written, 2“By those of other tongues and with the lips of others I will speak to this people; even so they will not listen to Me, says the Lord.”
So then tongues are for a 1sign, not to those who believe but to the unbelievers; but prophecy is for a sign not to the unbelievers but to those who believe.
If therefore the whole church comes together in one place, and 1all speak in tongues, and some unlearned in tongues or unbelievers enter, will they not say that you are 2insane?
But if 1all prophesy and some unbeliever or unlearned person enters, he is 2convicted by all, he is examined by all;
The secrets of his heart become manifest; and so falling on his face, he will worship God, declaring that indeed 1God is among you.
What then, brothers? Whenever you come together, each one 1has a psalm, has a teaching, has a revelation, has a tongue, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for 2building up.
If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be by two, or at the most three, and in turn, and one should interpret;
But if there is no interpreter, he should be silent in the 1church, and speak to himself and to God.
And as to prophets, two or three should speak, and the others 1discern.
But if something is revealed to another sitting by, the first should be silent.
For 1you can all prophesy one by one that all may learn and all may be 2encouraged.
And the 1spirits of prophets are subject to prophets;
For God is not a God of confusion but of 1peace.
2As in all the 3churches of the saints,
The women should be silent 1in the churches, for they are not permitted to 2speak; but they should be subject, even as the 3law also says.
But if they desire to learn anything, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is a shame for a woman to speak in the church.
Or was it from you that the word of God went forth? Or 1did it reach only to you?
If anyone thinks he is a 1prophet or spiritual, let him fully know the things which I write to you, that they are the 2commandment of the Lord.
But if anyone ignores this, let him ignore it.
So then, my brothers, desire earnestly the prophesying, and 1do not forbid the speaking in tongues.
But all things must be done becomingly and in 1order.
First CorinthiansChapter 15
Now I make known to you, brothers, the 1gospel which I announced to you, which also you received, in which also you 2stand,
Through which also you are 1being saved, if you hold fast the word which I announced to you as the gospel, unless you have believed in vain.
For I delivered to you, first of all, that which also I received, that 1Christ died for our sins according to the 2Scriptures;
And that He was buried, and that He has been raised on the third day according to the Scriptures;
And that He 1appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve;
Then He appeared to over five hundred brothers at one time, of whom the majority remain until now, but some have fallen asleep;
Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles;
And last of all He appeared to me also, as it were to one born prematurely.
For I am the least of the apostles, who am not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.
But by the 1grace of God I am what I am; and His grace unto me did not turn out to be in vain, but, on the contrary, I labored more abundantly than all of them, yet 2not I but the grace of God which is with me.
Therefore whether it is I or they, so we preach and so you have believed.
But if Christ is proclaimed that He has been raised from the dead, how is it that some among you say that there is 1no resurrection of the dead?
But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised.
And if Christ has not been raised, then our proclamation is vain; your faith is 1vain also.
And also we are found to be false witnesses of God because we have testified concerning God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if indeed the dead are not raised.
For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised.
And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is 1futile; you are 2still in your sins.
Then also those who have 1fallen asleep in Christ have 2perished.
If it is 1only that we have hoped in Christ in this life, we are of all men most miserable.
1But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the 2firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since through 1man came death, through 2man also came the resurrection of the dead.
For just as in Adam all 1die, so also in Christ all will be 2made alive.
But each one in his own order: the 1firstfruits, Christ; then 2those who are Christ's at His coming;
Then the 1end, 2when He 3delivers up the kingdom to His God and Father, 2once He has abolished all rule and all authority and power.
For He must 1reign until God puts all His enemies under His feet.
Death, the last enemy, is 1being abolished.
For 1He has subjected all things under 2His feet. But when 1He says that all things are subjected, it is evident that all things are except 1Him who has subjected all things to 2Him.
And when all things have been subjected to 1Him, then the 2Son Himself also will be subjected to 3Him who has subjected all things to 1Him, that God may be 4all in all.
1Otherwise what shall they who are 2baptized for the dead do? If the dead are actually not raised, why then are they baptized for them?
Why also do we brave danger every hour?
I protest by the 1boasting in you, brothers, which I have 2in Christ Jesus our Lord, I 1die daily.
If 1after the manner of men I fought with 2wild beasts at Ephesus, what does it profit me? If the dead are not raised, 3let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.
Do not be deceived: 1Evil 2companionships corrupt good morals.
1Awake from the drunken stupor righteously and do not sin, for some of you 2are ignorant of God. I speak to your shame.
But someone will say, How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?
Foolish man, 1what you sow is not made alive unless it dies;
And what you sow, you do not sow the body that will be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of some other of the rest.
But God gives it a body even as He willed, and to each of the seeds its own 1body.
1All flesh is not the same flesh, but one is of men, and another flesh is of cattle, and another is of birds, and another is of fish.
There are also heavenly bodies and earthly bodies; but the glory of the heavenly is one thing, and that of the earthly is another.
There is another glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption;
It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;
It is sown a 1soulish body, it is raised a 1spiritual body. If there is a soulish body, there is also a spiritual one.
So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living 1soul”; the last Adam became a life-giving 1Spirit.
But 1the spiritual is not first but 2the soulish, then the spiritual:
The first man is 1out of the earth, earthy; the 2second man is 3out of heaven.
As 1the earthy is, such are 2they also that are earthy; and as 3the heavenly is, such are 4they also that are heavenly.
And even as we have borne the 1image of the earthy, we will also bear the 1image of the heavenly.
Now this I say, brothers, that 1flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, neither does corruption inherit incorruption.
Behold, I tell you a 1mystery: We will not all 2sleep, but we will all be 3changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the 1last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the 2dead will be raised incorruptible, and 3we will be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and 1this mortal must put on immortality.
And 1when this corruptible will put on incorruption and this mortal will put on immortality, then the word which is written will come to pass, “Death has been swallowed up 2unto 3victory.”
1Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?
The 1sting of death is sin, and the 2power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God who gives us the 1victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be 1steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the 2work of the Lord, knowing that your 3labor is not in vain in the Lord.
First CorinthiansChapter 16
Now concerning the 1collection for the saints, 2just as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also do.
On the 1first day of the week each one of you should lay aside in store to himself whatever he may have been prospered, that no collections be made when I come.
And when I arrive, whomever you approve, I will send them with letters to carry your 1gift to Jerusalem;
And if it is fitting for me also to go, they will go with me.
Now I will come to you when I pass through Macedonia, for I will pass through Macedonia.
And perhaps I will stay with you, or even spend the winter, that you may send me forward wherever I may go.
For I do not wish to see you now just in passing, for I am hoping to remain with you for some time, if the Lord permits.
But I will remain in 1Ephesus until Pentecost,
For a door is opened to me, great and efficacious, and there are many opposers.
Now if Timothy comes, see that he is with you without fear; for he is working the work of the Lord, even as I am.
Let no one therefore despise him, but send him forward in peace that he may come to me; for I am awaiting him with the brothers.
And 1concerning our brother Apollos, 2I urged him many times to come to you with the brothers; yet it was not at all his desire to come now, but he will come when he has opportunity.
Watch, 1stand firm in the 2faith, be 3full-grown men, be strong.
Let all your matters be done in 1love.
Now I exhort you, brothers: You know the household of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and they have set themselves to minister to the saints;
You also be subject to such ones, and to everyone co-working and laboring.
Now I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because these have filled up the lack caused by your absence;
For they 1refreshed my 2spirit and yours. Acknowledge therefore such ones.
The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca greet you much in the Lord, with the 1church, which is in their house.
All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
1The greeting in my own hand — Paul.
If anyone does not love the Lord, let him be 1accursed! 2The Lord comes!
The 1grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.
My 1love in Christ Jesus be with you all.
