GalatiansChapter 4
But I say, As long as the heir is a 1child, he does not differ at all from a slave, though he is lord of all;
But he is under 1guardians and stewards until the 2time appointed by the father.
So also we, when we were children, were kept in slavery under the 1elements of the world;
But when the 1fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a 2woman, born under 3law,
That He might 1redeem those under law that we might receive the 2sonship.
And because you are sons, God has sent forth the 1Spirit of His Son into our 2hearts, 3crying, 4Abba, Father!
So then you are 1no longer a slave but a son; and if a 2son, an 3heir also 4through God.
However at that time, not knowing God, you were slaves to the gods which by 1nature are not gods;
But now, having come to know God, or rather having been known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and poor elements, to which you desire to 1be enslaved yet again?
You observe 1days and 2months and 3seasons and 4years;
I fear for you, lest I have labored upon you in 1vain.
Become 1as I am, because I also am 2as you are, brothers, I beseech you; you have not wronged me at all.
And you know that 1because of weakness of my flesh I announced the gospel to you the first time.
And that which was a trial to you in my flesh you did not despise nor 1loathe, but you received me as an angel of God, indeed as Christ Jesus.
Where then is 1your felicitation? For I testify concerning you that if possible you would have plucked out your 2eyes and given them to me.
So then have I become your enemy by presenting the truth to you?
They are 1zealous of you, but 2not rightly; but they desire to 3shut you out that you may be 4zealous of them.
But it is always good to be zealous in a good thing, and 1not only when I am present with you.
My 1children, with whom I 2travail again in birth until 3Christ is 4formed in you,
Indeed, I wish I could be present with you now and 1change my 2tone because I am 3perplexed about you.
1Tell me, you who desire to be 2under the law, do you not hear the 3law?
For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one of the maidservant and one of the free woman.
However the one of the maidservant was born according to the flesh, but the one of the free woman was born 1through promise.
These things are spoken allegorically, for 1these women are 2two covenants, one from 3Mount Sinai, bringing forth children unto 4slavery, which is 5Hagar.
Now this Hagar is Sinai the mountain in Arabia and corresponds to the 1Jerusalem which now is, for she 2is in 3slavery with her children.
But the 1Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother;
For it is written, “Rejoice, barren one who does not bear; break forth and shout, you who are not travailing, because 1many are the children of her who is 2desolate rather than of her who has her husband.”
But you, brothers, in the way Isaac was, are 1children of promise.
But just as at that time he who was born 1according to the flesh 2persecuted him who was born according to the 3Spirit, so 4also it is now.
But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the maidservant and her son, for the 1son of the maidservant shall by no means inherit with the 2son of the free woman.”
So then, brothers, we are 1not children of the maidservant but of the free woman.
GalatiansChapter 5
It is for 1freedom that Christ has set us free; 2stand fast therefore, and do not be 3entangled with a 4yoke of slavery again.
Behold, I Paul say to you that if you become 1circumcised, Christ will profit you 2nothing.
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
You have been 1brought to nought, separated from Christ, you who are being justified by law; you have 2fallen from grace.
For we 1by the Spirit 2out of faith eagerly await the 3hope of righteousness.
For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision 1avails anything nor uncircumcision, but faith avails, 2operating through 3love.
You were running well. Who hindered you that you would not believe and obey the 1truth?
This 1persuasion is not of Him who calls you.
A little 1leaven leavens the whole lump.
I am confident in the Lord concerning you that you will be of no other mind; but he who is troubling you shall bear the judgment, whoever he may be.
But I, brothers, if I still preach 1circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? Then the stumbling block of the cross has been annulled.
I wish that those upsetting you would even 1cut themselves off.
For you were called for 1freedom, brothers; only do not turn this freedom into an opportunity for the 2flesh, but through love 3serve one another.
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another.
But I say, 1Walk by the 2Spirit and you shall by no means fulfill the lust of the 2flesh.
For the 1flesh lusts against the 2Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these 3oppose each other that you would not do the things that you desire.
But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the 1law.
And the 1works of the flesh are manifest, which are such things as 2fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
1Idolatry, sorcery, 2enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, 3factions, divisions, 4sects,
Envyings, 1bouts of drunkenness, carousings, and things like these, of which I tell you beforehand, even as I have said before, that those who practice such things will not 2inherit the kingdom of God.
But the 1fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
Meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
1But they who are of Christ Jesus 2have 3crucified the flesh with its passions and its lusts.
If we 1live by the Spirit, let us also 2walk by the Spirit.
Let us 1not become vainglorious, provoking one another, envying one another.
GalatiansChapter 6
Brothers, even if a man is overtaken in some offense, you who are 1spiritual restore such a one in a 2spirit of meekness, looking to yourself lest you also be tempted.
Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the 1law of Christ completely.
For if anyone 1thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
But let each man prove his own work, and then he will have his boast in regard to himself alone and not in regard to another.
For each one shall bear his own load.
But let him who is instructed in the word share in all 1good things with him who instructs.
Do not be 1deceived: God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.
For he who sows 1unto his own 2flesh will reap 3corruption of the flesh, but he who sows 1unto the 2Spirit will of the Spirit reap 3eternal life.
And let us not lose heart in doing what is good, for in the proper season we will reap if we 1do not faint.
So then, as we have the opportunity, let us do what is 1good toward all, but especially toward those of the 2household of the 3faith.
See with what 1large letters I have written to you with my own hand.
As many as desire to make a 1good show 2in the flesh, these compel you to be circumcised, but only that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.
For neither do they that become circumcised keep the law themselves, but they desire you to be circumcised that they may boast in your flesh.
But far be it from me to boast except in the 1cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through 2whom the 3world has been crucified to me and I to the world.
For neither is 1circumcision anything nor uncircumcision, but a new creation is what matters.
And as many as 1walk by this 2rule, 3peace be upon them and mercy, even upon the 4Israel of God.
Henceforth let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the 1brands of Jesus.
The 1grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your 2spirit, 3brothers. Amen.
