EphesiansChapter 4
I beseech you therefore, 1I, the 2prisoner in the Lord, to 3walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,
With all 1lowliness and meekness, with long-suffering, bearing one another in love,
Being diligent to 1keep the 2oneness of the Spirit in the uniting 3bond of peace:
1One Body and one Spirit, even as also you were called in one 2hope of your calling;
One 1Lord, one 2faith, one baptism;
One 1God and Father of 2all, who is 3over all and through all and in all.
1But to each one of us 2grace was given according to the 3measure of the gift of Christ.
Therefore the Scripture says, “Having ascended to the 1height, He led captive 2those taken captive and gave 3gifts to men.”
(Now this, “He ascended,” what is it except that He also descended into the 1lower parts of the earth?
He who descended, He is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens that He might 1fill all things.)
And He Himself gave 1some as apostles and some as prophets and some as evangelists and some as 2shepherds and teachers,
For the 1perfecting of the saints 2unto the work of the 3ministry, 2unto the 4building up of the Body of Christ,
Until we all 1arrive at the 2oneness of the faith and of the full knowledge of the 3Son of God, at a 4full-grown man, at the measure of the stature of the 5fullness of Christ,
That we may be no longer 1little children tossed by 2waves and carried about by every 3wind of teaching in the 4sleight of men, in craftiness with a view to a 5system of error,
But 1holding to truth in 2love, we may 3grow up into Him in all things, who is the 4Head, Christ,
1Out from whom all the Body, being 2joined together and being knit together through every 3joint of 4the rich supply 5and through the 6operation in the measure of 7each one part, 8causes the 9growth of the Body unto the building up of itself in 10love.
This therefore I say and 1testify in the Lord, that you no longer 2walk as the Gentiles also walk in the 3vanity of their mind,
Being 1darkened in their understanding, alienated from the 2life of God because of the 3ignorance which is in them, because of the 4hardness of their heart;
Who, 1being past feeling, have given themselves over to lasciviousness to work all uncleanness in greediness.
But you did not so 1learn Christ,
If indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him as the 1reality is in Jesus,
1That you 2put off, as regards your 3former manner of life, the 4old man, which is being corrupted according to the lusts of 5the deceit,
And that you be 1renewed in the 2spirit of your mind
And 1put on the 2new man, which was created according to 3God in 4righteousness and holiness of 5the reality.
1Therefore having put off the 2lie, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.
Be 1angry, yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your 2indignation,
Neither 1give place to the devil.
He who steals should 1steal no more, but rather should 2labor, working with his own hands in 3that which is respectable, that he may have something to 2share with him who has need.
Let no 1corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for 2building up, according to the need, that it may give 3grace to those who hear.
And do not 1grieve the Holy 2Spirit of God, 3in whom you were 4sealed 5unto the day of 6redemption.
Let all bitterness and anger and wrath and clamor and evil speaking be removed from you, with all malice.
And be kind to one another, 1tenderhearted, 2forgiving one another, even as 3God in Christ also 4forgave you.
EphesiansChapter 5
Be therefore 1imitators of God, as beloved children;
And walk in 1love, even as 2Christ also loved 3us and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a 4sacrifice to God for a 5sweet-smelling savor.
But 1fornication and all uncleanness or greediness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for 2saints,
And obscenity and foolish talking or sly, filthy jesting, which are not becoming, but rather the 1giving of thanks.
For this you 1realize, 2knowing that every fornicator or unclean person or greedy person (who is an idolater) has no inheritance in the 3kingdom of Christ and of God.
Let no one deceive you with vain words, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.
Therefore do not be partakers with them;
For you were once darkness but are now 1light in the Lord; 2walk as 3children of light
(For the fruit of the light consists in all 1goodness and righteousness and truth),
Proving what is well pleasing to the Lord.
And do not participate in the 1unfruitful works of darkness, but rather even 2reprove them.
For the things which are done by them in secret it is shameful even to speak of.
But all things which are 1reproved are made manifest by the light; for everything that makes manifest is light.
Therefore He says, Awake, 1sleeper, and arise from the dead, and 2Christ will shine on you.
1Look therefore carefully how you walk, not as unwise, but as wise,
1Redeeming the time, because the 2days are evil.
Therefore do not be foolish, but 1understand what the will of the Lord is.
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissoluteness, but be 1filled in spirit,
1Speaking to one another in 2psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and psalming with your heart to the Lord,
Giving thanks 1at all times for all things 2in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our God and Father,
Being 1subject to 2one another in the 3fear of Christ:
1Wives, be subject 2to your 3own husbands as to the Lord;
(A Type of the Church and Christ
For a husband is 1head of the wife as also Christ is Head of the church, He Himself being the 2Savior of the Body.
1But as the church is subject to Christ, so also let the wives be subject to their husbands in 2everything.
Husbands, 1love your wives even 2as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her
That He might 1sanctify her, cleansing her by the 2washing of the 3water in the 4word,
That He might 1present the 2church to Himself 3glorious, not having 4spot or wrinkle or any such things, but that she would be 5holy and without blemish.
In the same way the husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his own wife loves himself.
For no one ever hated his own flesh, but 1nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ also the church,
Because we are members of His Body.
For this cause a man shall 1leave his father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall be 2one flesh.
This mystery is great, but I speak with regard to 1Christ and the church.
Nevertheless you also, each one of you, in the same way love 1your own wife as yourself; and the wife should 2fear her husband.
EphesiansChapter 6
1Children, obey your parents 2in the Lord, for this is 3right.
1“Honor your father and mother,” which is the 2first commandment with a promise,
“That it may be 1well with you and that you may live long on the earth.”
And fathers, do not 1provoke your children to anger, but nurture them in the discipline and 2admonition of the Lord.
1Slaves, 2be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh with 3fear and trembling, in 4singleness of your heart, 5as to Christ;
Not with eye-service as men-pleasers but 1as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from the soul;
With good will serving as slaves, 1as serving the Lord and not men;
Knowing that whatever good thing each one does, 1this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a slave or a free man.
And masters, do the same things toward them, 1giving up your threatening, knowing that both their Master and yours is in the heavens, and there is no respect of persons with Him.
1Finally, 2be 3empowered 4in the Lord and in the might of His strength.
1Put on the 2whole armor of God that you may be able to 3stand against the 4stratagems of the devil,
For our wrestling is not against 1blood and flesh but against 2the rulers, against the authorities, against the world-rulers of 3this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the 4heavenlies.
Therefore 1take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to 2withstand in the 3evil day, and having done all, to 4stand.
Stand therefore, 1having 2girded your loins with 3truth and having 4put on the breastplate of righteousness
And having 1shod your feet with the 2firm foundation of the gospel of peace;
Besides all these, having 1taken up the shield of 2faith, with which you will be able to quench all the flaming 3darts of the evil one.
And receive the 1helmet of salvation and the 2sword of the Spirit, 3which Spirit is the 4word of God,
1By means of all 2prayer and petition, praying at every time in 3spirit and 4watching unto this in 5all perseverance and 6petition concerning all the saints,
And for me, that 1utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known in boldness the 2mystery of the gospel,
For which I am an 1ambassador in a 2chain, that in it I would speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
But that you also may know the things concerning me, how I am doing, Tychicus, the beloved brother and faithful 1minister in the Lord, will 2make all things known to you.
Him I have sent to you for this very thing, that you may know the things concerning us and that he may comfort your hearts.
1Peace to the brothers and 2love with faith 3from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1Grace be with all those who 2love our Lord Jesus Christ in 3incorruptibility.
