Subject:God’s Economy concerning the Church
First TimothyChapter 1
1Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus according to the 2command of 3God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our 4hope,
To 1Timothy, genuine child in 2faith: Grace, mercy, peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Even as I exhorted you, when I was 1going into Macedonia, to remain in Ephesus in order that you might charge 2certain ones not to teach 3different things
Nor to give heed to 1myths and unending 2genealogies, which produce questionings rather than God's 3economy, which is in 4faith.
But the end of the 1charge is 2love out of a 3pure heart and out of a good conscience and out of unfeigned faith;
From which things some, having 1misaimed, have turned aside to 2vain talking,
Desiring to be 1teachers of the law, though they understand neither the things that they say, nor concerning what they 2confidently affirm.
But we know that the law is good, if one uses it lawfully
And knows this, that the law is not enacted for a righteous man but for the lawless and unruly, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who 1strike their fathers and those who strike their mothers, for murderers,
For fornicators, homosexuals, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever other thing that is opposed to the 1healthy teaching,
According to the 1gospel of the glory of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted.
I give thanks to Him who 1empowers me, Christ Jesus our Lord, that He has counted me faithful, appointing me to the ministry,
Who formerly was a 1blasphemer and a persecutor and an 2insulting person; but I was shown 3mercy because, being 4ignorant, I acted in 4unbelief.
And the 1grace of our Lord superabounded with 2faith and love in Christ Jesus.
Faithful is the word and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus 1came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am foremost.
But because of this I was shown mercy, that in me, the foremost, Jesus Christ might display all His long-suffering for a 1pattern to those who are to believe on Him unto 2eternal life.
1Now to the King of the ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, be 2honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
This 1charge I commit to you, my child Timothy, according to the 2prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you might 3war the good warfare,
Holding 1faith and a good conscience, concerning which some, thrusting these away, have become 2shipwrecked regarding the 3faith;
Of whom are 1Hymenaeus and 2Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan that they may be 3disciplined not to blaspheme.
First TimothyChapter 2
I exhort therefore, first of all, that 1petitions, prayers, 2intercessions, thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men;
On behalf of kings and all who are in high position, that we may lead a 1quiet and tranquil life in all 2godliness and 3gravity.
This is good and acceptable in the sight of our Savior God,
Who desires 1all men to be saved and to come to the 2full knowledge of the truth.
For there is 1one God and one 2Mediator of God and men, the 3man Christ Jesus,
Who 1gave Himself as a 2ransom for all, the 3testimony to be borne in its own times.
For which I was appointed a 1herald and an apostle (I speak the truth; I do not lie), a 2teacher of the Gentiles in 3faith and truth.
I desire therefore that men 1pray in every place, lifting up 2holy 3hands, without 4wrath and 5reasoning;
Similarly, that women adorn themselves in 1proper clothing with 2modesty and 3sobriety, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly clothing,
But, what befits women professing 1godly reverence, by good works.
Let a woman learn in 1quietness in all 2subjection;
But I do not permit a woman to 1teach or to assert authority over a man, but to be in 2quietness.
For 1Adam was 2formed first, then Eve;
And 1Adam was not deceived; but the 2woman, having been quite deceived, has fallen into transgression.
But she will be saved through her 1childbearing, if they remain in 2faith and love and holiness with sobriety.
First TimothyChapter 3
Faithful is the word: If anyone 1aspires to the 2overseership, he desires a good work.
The 1overseer then must be 2without reproach, the 3husband of one wife, 4temperate, 5of a sober mind, 6orderly, 7hospitable, 8apt to teach;
1Not an excessive drinker; 2not a striker, but 3gentle; 4not contentious; 5not fond of money;
One who 1manages well his own house, having his children in subjection with all 2gravity
(But if one does not know how to manage his own house, how will he care for the church of God?);
Not a 1new convert, lest being 2blinded with pride he fall into the 3judgment suffered by the devil.
And he also must have a 1good testimony from 2those outside, that he may not fall into reproach and the 3snare of the 4devil.
1Deacons must similarly be grave, 2not double-tongued, 3not addicted to much wine, 4not greedy for base gain;
Holding the 1mystery of the faith in a 2pure conscience.
And these also must first 1be proved; then let them 2minister if they are 3unreprovable.
1Women similarly must be grave, 2not slanderers, 3temperate, 4faithful in all things.
Deacons must be 1husbands of one wife, 2managing their children and their own houses well.
For those who have 1ministered well obtain for themselves a 2good standing and 3much boldness in faith, which is in Christ Jesus.
These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly.
But if I delay, I write that you may know 1how one ought to conduct himself in the 2house of God, which is the church of the 3living God, the 4pillar and base of the 5truth.
And 1confessedly, great is the 2mystery of godliness: 3He who was 4manifested in the flesh, 5Justified in the Spirit, 6Seen by angels, 7Preached among the nations, 8Believed on in the world, 9Taken up in glory.
