Subject:The Divine Provision and the Divine Government
Second PeterChapter 1
1Simon Peter, a 2slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to 3those who have been 4allotted 5faith 6equally precious as 7ours 8in the 9righteousness of our 10God and Savior, Jesus Christ:
1Grace to you and peace be 2multiplied 3in the full 4knowledge of God and of 5Jesus our Lord;
Seeing that His 1divine power has 2granted to us 3all things which relate to 4life and 5godliness, 6through the 7full knowledge of 8Him who has called us 9by His own 10glory and 11virtue,
1Through 2which He has granted to us precious and 3exceedingly great promises that through 4these you might become partakers of the divine nature, 5having escaped the 6corruption which is in the world 7by lust.
And for this very reason also, 1adding all diligence, 2supply bountifully in your 3faith 4virtue; and in virtue, 5knowledge;
And in knowledge, 1self-control; and in self-control, 2endurance; and in endurance, 3godliness;
And in godliness, 1brotherly love; and in brotherly love, 2love.
For 1these things, 2existing in you and 3abounding, 4constitute you neither 5idle nor 6unfruitful 7unto the full 8knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
For he in whom 1these things are not present is blind, being 2shortsighted, 3having forgotten the cleansing of his past sins.
1Therefore, brothers, be the more diligent to 2make your calling and selection firm, for doing 3these things you shall by no means ever stumble.
For in this way the entrance into the 1eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly and bountifully 2supplied to you.
Therefore I will be ready always to remind you concerning these things, even though you know them and have been established in the 1present truth.
And I consider it right, as long as I am in this 1tabernacle, to stir you up by a reminder,
Knowing that the 1putting off of my tabernacle is imminent, even as 2also our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.
Moreover I will also be diligent that you may be able, after my 1exodus, to bring these things to mind at all times.
For we did not 1follow cleverly devised 2myths when we made known to you the power and 3coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we became 4eyewitnesses of that One's 5majesty.
For He received from God the Father honor and glory, a voice such as this being 1borne to Him by the 2magnificent glory: This is My Son, My Beloved, in whom I delight.
And this voice we heard being borne out of heaven while we were with Him in the holy mountain.
1And we have the prophetic word made more firm, to which you do well to give heed as to a 2lamp shining in a 3dark place, until the 4day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of 1one's own 2interpretation;
1For no prophecy was ever 2borne by the will of man, but men spoke from God while being 2borne by the Holy Spirit.
Second PeterChapter 2
1But there arose also false prophets among the people, as also among you there will be false teachers, who will 2secretly bring in destructive 3heresies, even denying the 4Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift 5destruction.
And many will 1follow their licentiousness, because of whom the 2way of the truth will be reviled.
And in covetousness, with fabricated words, they will make merchandise of you, for whom the 1judgment 2of old is not idle, and their 3destruction does not slumber.
For if God did not spare the 1angels who sinned but delivered them to gloomy pits, having cast them down to 2Tartarus, they being kept 3for 4judgment;
And did not spare the ancient world but guarded Noah, a herald of 1righteousness, with seven others, when He brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;
And having reduced to ashes the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, condemned them to 1ruin, having set them as an example to those who intend to 2live an ungodly life,
And rescued righteous Lot, who had been oppressed by the licentious 1manner of life of the 2lawless
(For that righteous man, who settled down among them, in seeing and hearing tormented his righteous soul day after day with their lawless works);
The Lord knows how to deliver the 1godly out of trial and how to keep the 2unrighteous under punishment 3for the 4day of 5judgment,
And especially 1those who go after the flesh in the lust for defilement and despise 2lordship. Daring, 3self-willed, they do not tremble while reviling 4dignities;
Whereas 1angels, though they are greater in strength and power, 2do not bring a reviling judgment against 1them before the Lord.
But these, like 1animals 2without reason, born natural 3for capture and 4destruction, reviling in things of which they are ignorant, will also in their corrupting of others be 5destroyed;
1Suffering unrighteousness as the 2wages of unrighteousness; considering luxury in the day to be pleasure; 3spots and blemishes, reveling in their deceits while feasting together with you;
Having eyes full of 1adultery and not ceasing from sin; enticing unstable souls, having a heart exercised for covetousness, children of curse.
Forsaking the 1straight way, they have gone astray, 2following the way of 3Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness
But had reproof for his own transgression: a dumb 1beast of burden, uttering with a man's voice, restrained the madness of the prophet.
These are 1springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the 2gloom of darkness is kept.
For uttering great swelling words of vanity, they entice by lusts of the flesh, with licentiousness, those who are barely escaping from them who 1live in error;
Promising freedom to them, while they themselves are slaves of 1corruption; for by whom anyone has been defeated, 2by this one he has been enslaved.
For if, having escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ but having again been entangled in these, they are defeated, the last state has become worse for them than the first.
For it would be better for them not to have known the 1way of righteousness than, knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them.
It has happened to them according to the true proverb: The 1dog has turned 2to its own vomit, and the washed sow to wallowing in the mud.
Second PeterChapter 3
This second letter, beloved, I now write to you; in them both I stir up your sincere mind with a reminder,
So that you would remember the 1words spoken before by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior preached by your apostles;
Knowing this first, that in the 1last of days 2mockers will come with mocking, going on according to their own lusts
And saying, Where is the 1promise of His 2coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue in this way from the beginning of creation.
For 1this escapes them by their own choosing, that by the 2word of God the 3heavens were of old and the 3earth was 4compacted out of water and through water,
Through 1which the 2world 3then, being 4flooded with water, 5perished.
But the heavens and the earth 1now, by the 2same word, have been stored up for 3fire, being kept unto the day of 4judgment and 5destruction of 6ungodly men.
But do not let this one thing 1escape you, beloved, that with the Lord 2one day is like a thousand years and a thousand years like one day.
The Lord 1does not delay regarding the promise, as 2some count 3delay, but is 4long-suffering toward you, not intending that any 5perish but that 6all advance to 7repentance.
But the 1day of the Lord will 2come as a thief, in 3which the 4heavens will pass away with a 5roar, and the 6elements, burning with intense heat, will be 7dissolved, and the earth and the 8works in it will be 7burned up.
Since 1all these things 2are to be thus dissolved, what kind of persons ought you to be 3in holy manner of life and godliness,
1Expecting and hastening the 2coming of the 3day of God, on account of 4which the heavens, being on fire, will be dissolved, and the elements, burning with intense heat, are to be melted away?
But according to His 1promise we are expecting 2new heavens and a new earth, in which 3righteousness 4dwells.
Therefore, beloved, since you expect these things, be diligent to be 1found by Him in peace 2without spot and without blemish;
And 1count the 2long-suffering of our Lord to be 3salvation, even as 4also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote to you,
As also in 1all his letters, speaking in them concerning 2these things, in which some things are hard to understand, which the unlearned and unstable 3twist, as also the 2rest of the Scriptures, to their own 4destruction.
You therefore, beloved, since you know these things beforehand, 1be on your guard lest being 2carried away by the error of the 3lawless, you 4fall from your own steadfastness.
But 1grow in the 2grace and 3knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 4To Him be the glory both now and unto the day of eternity. Amen.
