Subject:The Fellowship of the Divine Life

Chapter 1
 1That which was  2from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we  3beheld and our hands  4handled, concerning the  5Word of  6life
(And the  1life was  2manifested, and we have seen and testify and report to you  3the eternal life, which was  4with the  5Father and was  6manifested to us);
That which we have  1seen and heard we report also to you that you  2also may have  3fellowship with us, and indeed our fellowship is with the  4Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
And these things we write that  1our  2joy may be made full.
 1And this is the message which we have heard from Him and announce to you, that  2God is  3light and in Him is no  4darkness at all.
If we say that we  1have fellowship  2with Him and yet  3walk in the darkness, we  4lie and are not  5practicing the  6truth;
But if we walk in the light as He  1is in the light, we  2have fellowship with one another, and the  3blood of  4Jesus His Son  5cleanses us from every  6sin.
If we say that we  1do not have sin,  2we are deceiving ourselves, and the  3truth is not in us.
If we  1confess our sins, He is  2faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and  3cleanse us from all  4unrighteousness.
If we say that we  1have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His  2word is not in us.

Chapter 2
My  1little children,  2these things I write to you that you  3may not sin. And if anyone  4sins, we have an  5Advocate  6with the  7Father, Jesus Christ the  8Righteous;
And He Himself is the  1propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for those of the  2whole world.
 1And in this we  2know that we  3know Him, if we keep His  4commandments.
He who says, I know Him, and does not keep His commandments is a  1liar, and the  2truth is not in this one;
But whoever keeps His  1word, truly in this one the  2love of God has been  3perfected. In this we know that we are  4in Him.
He who says he  1abides in Him ought himself also to walk even as  2He walked.
Beloved, I am not writing a new commandment to you but an  1old commandment, which you have had  2from the beginning; the old commandment is the word which you heard.
Yet again a  1new commandment I am writing to you,  2which is true in Him and in you because the  3darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
He who says he is in the  1light and yet hates his brother is in the darkness until now.
He who loves his brother  1abides in the  2light, and there is no cause of stumbling in him;
But he who  1hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness and does not know where he is  2going, because the darkness has  3blinded his eyes.
I write to you,  1little children, because your sins have been  2forgiven you because of His name.
I write to you,  1fathers, because you  2know  3Him who is  4from the beginning. I write to you,  5young men, because you have  6overcome the  7evil one. I  8write to you,  9young children, because you know the  10Father.
I have  1written to you, fathers, because you know Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because  2you are strong and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the  3evil one.
 1Do not love the  2world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world,  3love for the  4Father is not in him;
Because all that is in the world, the  1lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the vainglory of  2life, is not of the Father but is of the world.
And the world is passing away, and its  1lust, but he who  2does the  1will of God abides forever.
 1Young children, it is the last hour; and even as you heard that  2antichrist is coming, even now  3many antichrists have come; whereby we know that it is the last hour.
They went out from us, but they were  1not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have  2remained with us; but they went out that they might be manifested that they all are not of us.
And you have an  1anointing from the Holy One, and  2all of you know.
I have not written to you because you do not know the  1truth, but because you  2know it and because no lie is of the  1truth.
Who is the liar if not he who  1denies that  2Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.
Everyone who  1denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who confesses the Son has the Father also.
As for you,  1that which you heard  2from the beginning, let it abide in you. If that which you heard  2from the beginning abides in you, you also will  3abide in the Son and in the Father.
And this is the promise which  1He Himself  2promised us, the  3eternal life.
These things I have written to you  1concerning those who  2lead you astray.
And as for you, the  1anointing which you have received from  2Him  3abides in you, and you have  4no need that anyone teach you; but as  2His anointing  5teaches you concerning  6all things and is  7true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you,  8abide in  2Him.
And now,  1little children,  2abide in Him, so that if  3He is manifested, we may have boldness and not be  4put to shame  5from Him  6at His coming.
If you  1know that  2He is  3righteous,  4you  5know that everyone who  6practices righteousness also has been  7begotten of Him.

Chapter 3
 1Behold what manner of  2love the  3Father has given to us, that we should be called  4children of God; and we are.  5Because of this the world does not  6know us,  7because it did not know Him.
Beloved, now we are children of God, and  1it has not yet been manifested what we will be. We  2know that if  3He is manifested, we will be like Him because we will  4see Him even as  3He is.
And everyone who has  1this hope set on Him  2purifies himself, even as  3He is pure.
Everyone who  1practices sin practices  2lawlessness also, and sin is lawlessness.
And you know that He was manifested that He might  1take away sins; and sin is not in  2Him.
Everyone who  1abides in Him  2does not sin; everyone who  3sins  4has not seen Him or known Him.
 1Little children, let no one  2lead you astray; he who  3practices righteousness is  4righteous, even as He is righteous;
He who  1practices sin is of the  2devil, because the devil has sinned  3from the beginning.  4For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might  5destroy the works of the devil.
Everyone who has been  1begotten of God does  2not practice sin, because His  3seed abides in him; and he  4cannot sin, because he has been begotten of God.
 1In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest.
Everyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, neither he who does not  2love his brother.
For this is the  1message which you heard  2from the beginning, that we should  3love one another,
Not as Cain was  1of the  2evil one and slew his brother. And for what reason did he slay him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's, righteous.
Do not marvel, brothers, if the  1world hates you.
We know that we have passed out of  1death into life because we love the brothers. He who does  2not love abides in death.
Everyone who  1hates his brother is a  2murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
In this we know love, that He laid down His  1life on our behalf, and we ought to lay down our  2lives on behalf of the brothers.
But whoever has the livelihood of the world and sees that his brother has need and shuts up his  1affections from him, how does the  2love of God abide in him?
 1Little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue but in  2deed and  3truthfulness.
And in this we will know that we are of the  1truth, and we will  2persuade our heart before Him,
Because if our  1heart blames us, it is because God is greater than our heart and knows all things.
Beloved, if our heart does not blame us, we have  1boldness toward God;
And  1whatever we ask we receive from Him because we  2keep His commandments and  3do the things that are pleasing in His sight.
And this is His  1commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, even as He gave a commandment to us.
And he who keeps His commandments  1abides in Him, and  2He in him. And in this we know that He abides in us,  3by the  4Spirit whom He gave to us.

Chapter 4
Beloved, do not believe  1every spirit, but  2prove the spirits whether they are  3of God, because many  4false prophets have gone out into the world.
In this you know the Spirit of God: Every  1spirit which confesses that Jesus Christ has come  2in the flesh is of God,
And every  1spirit which does not confess Jesus is not of God; and this is the spirit of the  2antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming and now is already in the world.
You are  1of God,  2little children; and you have overcome  3them because greater is  4He who is in you than  5he who is in the world.
They are  1of the world; therefore they speak  1out of the world, and the world hears them.
We are  1of God; he who knows God hears us; he who is  2not of God does not hear us.  3From this we know the  4Spirit of  5truth and the  4spirit of deception.
Beloved, let us  1love one another, because  2love is of God, and everyone who  3loves has been  4begotten of God and  5knows God.
He who does not love has  1not known God, because God is  2love.
In this the love of God was manifested  1among us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the  2world that we might  3have life and live through Him.
 1Herein is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son as a  2propitiation for our sins.
Beloved, if God has loved us in this way, we also ought to  1love one another.
No one has  1beheld God at any time; if we  2love one another, God abides in us, and  3His love is  4perfected in us.
In  1this we know that we  2abide in Him and He in us, that He has given to us  3of His Spirit.
And we have beheld and testify that the Father has  1sent the Son as the Savior of the  2world.
Whoever  1confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him and he in God.
And we know and have believed the  1love which God has  2in us. God is  3love, and he who  4abides in love  5abides in God and  6God abides in him.
In  1this has love been  2perfected with us, that we may have  3boldness in the day of the  4judgment because even as  5He is, so also are we in this world.
There is no  1fear in love, but  2perfect love casts out fear because fear has punishment, and he who fears has  3not been perfected in love.
We love because He  1first loved us.
If anyone says, I love God, and  1hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.
And this commandment we have from Him, that he who loves God love his brother also.

Chapter 5
Everyone who  1believes that Jesus is the Christ has been begotten of God, and everyone who loves Him who has begotten loves him also who has been begotten of Him.
In this we know that we love the children of God, when we  1love God and  2do His commandments.
For this is the  1love of God, that we  2keep His commandments; and His commandments are not  3burdensome.
For  1everything that has been  2begotten of God  3overcomes the  4world; and this is the victory which has overcome the world — our  5faith.
And who is he who overcomes the world except him who  1believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
This is  1He who came through water and blood 2, Jesus Christ; not  3in the water only, but  3in the water and  3in the blood; and the Spirit is He who  4testifies, because the Spirit is the  5reality.
For there are three who testify,
The Spirit and the water and the blood, and the three are  1unto the one thing.
If we receive the testimony of men, the  1testimony of God is greater, because this is the testimony of God that He has testified concerning His Son.
He who  1believes into the Son of God has the testimony in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar because he has not believed in the testimony which God has testified concerning His Son.
And this is the testimony, that God  1gave to us eternal life and this life is in His Son.
He who  1has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
I have written  1these things to you that you may know that you have eternal life, to you who believe into the name of the Son of God.
And  1this is the  2boldness which we have toward Him, that if we  3ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
And if we  1know that He hears us in whatever we  2ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not  1unto death, he shall  2ask and he  3will give  4life to him, to those sinning not unto death. There is a  5sin unto death; I do not say that he should make request concerning that.
All  1unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not unto death.
We know that everyone who is  1begotten of God does not sin, but  2he who has been begotten of God  3keeps himself, and the  4evil one does not  5touch him.
We know that we are  1of God, and the  2whole world  3lies in the  4evil one.
And we know that the Son of God has  1come and has given us an  2understanding that we might  3know  4Him who is  5true; and we are  6in Him who is true,  7in His Son Jesus Christ.  8This is the true God and eternal life.
 1Little children,  2guard yourselves from  3idols.
