所以，有分于属天呼召的圣别弟兄们，你们应当留意思想我们所承认为使徒、为大祭司的耶稣；
Therefore, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Jesus,

祂对那设立祂的忠信，如同摩西在神的全家忠信一样。
Who was faithful to Him who constituted Him, as also Moses was in all His house.

祂比摩西被断为配得更多的荣耀，就像建设房屋的比房屋更尊贵。
For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by as much as He who built the house has more honor than the house.

因为每一座房屋都是由人建设的，但建设万有的乃是神。
For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.

摩西为仆人，在神的全家忠信，为要给将来传讲的事作见证；
And Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of the things to be spoken later;

但基督为儿子，治理神的家；我们若将因盼望而有的胆量和夸耀坚守到底，便是祂的家了。
But Christ was faithful as a Son over His house, whose house we are if indeed we hold fast the boldness and the boast of hope firm to the end.

所以，正如圣灵所说的，“你们今日若听见祂的声音，
Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, “Today if you hear His voice,

就不可硬着心，像在旷野惹祂发怒时，试探祂的日子一样；
Do not harden your hearts as in the provocation, in the day of trial in the wilderness,

在那里你们的祖宗以试验试探我，并且观看我的作为四十年。
Where your fathers tried Me by testing Me and saw My works for forty years.

所以我厌烦那一代的人，说，他们心里时常迷糊，竟不晓得我的法则；
Therefore I was displeased with this generation, and I said, They always go astray in their heart, and they have not known My ways;

我就在怒中起誓说，他们绝不可进入我的安息。”
As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter into My rest!”

弟兄们，你们要谨慎，免得你们中间，或有人存着不信的恶心，将活神离弃了。
Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief in falling away from the living God.

总要趁着还有称为“今日”的时候，天天彼此相劝，免得你们中间有人被罪迷惑，心就刚硬了。
But exhort one another each day, as long as it is called “today,” lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin —

“你们今日若听见祂的声音，就不可硬着心，像惹祂发怒的时候一样。”当这话还在说的时候，
For we have become partners of Christ, if indeed we hold fast the beginning of the assurance firm to the end —

我们若将起初的确信坚守到底，就必作基督的同伙了。
While it is said, “Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the provocation.”

原来那听见而惹祂发怒的是谁？岂不是那些借着摩西从埃及出来的众人么？
For who provoked Him when they heard? Indeed was it not all who came out of Egypt by Moses?

神四十年之久，又厌烦了谁？岂不是那些犯罪，尸首倒在旷野的人么？
And with whom was He displeased for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose carcasses fell in the wilderness?

又向谁起誓说，他们必不得进入祂的安息？岂不是向那些不信从的人么？
And to whom did He swear that they should not enter into His rest, except to the disobedient?

这样我们看出，他们不能进入，是因为不信的缘故了。
And we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.

所以，我们应当畏惧，免得那进入祂安息的应许，虽然留给我们，你们中间却有人像是赶不上了。
Let us fear therefore, lest, a promise being left of entering into His rest, any one of you may seem to have come short of it.

因为有福音传给我们，像传给他们一样；只是所听见的话与他们无益，因为这话在听见的人里面，没有与信心调和。
For indeed we have had the good news announced to us, even as they also; but the word heard did not profit them, not being mixed together with faith in those who heard.

但我们已经相信的人，却进入那安息，正如神所说，“我就在怒中起誓，他们绝不可进入我的安息。”其实造物之工，从创世以来已经完成了。
For we who have believed enter into the rest, even as He has said, “As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter into My rest!” although the works of creation were completed from the foundation of the world.

因为论到第七日，祂在某处这样说，“到第七日，神就歇了祂一切的工，”
For He has spoken somewhere concerning the seventh day thus, “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works.”

而在这里又说，“他们绝不可进入我的安息。”
And in this place again, “They shall not enter into My rest!”

这样，这安息既留下给一些人进入，而那先前有福音传给他们的人，因为不信从，不得进入，
Since therefore it remains that some should enter into it and those who formerly had the good news announced to them did not enter because of disobedience,

神就再指定一个日子，就是过了这么长的时间，在大卫书上所说的今日，正如前面所说的：“你们今日若听见祂的声音，就不可硬着心。”
He again designates a certain day, today, saying in David after so long a time, even as was said before, “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.”

若是约书亚已经使他们得了安息，此后神就不会提起别的日子了。
For if Joshua had brought them into rest, He would not have spoken concerning another day after these things.

这样，必有一安息日的安息，为神的子民存留。
So then there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.

因为那进入祂安息的，也歇了自己的工，正如神歇了自己的工一样。
For he who has entered into His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His own.

所以我们务必竭力进入那安息，免得有人随着那不信从的样子跌倒了。
Let us therefore be diligent to enter into that rest lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.

因为神的话是活的，是有功效的，比一切两刃的剑更锋利，能以刺入、甚至剖开魂与灵，骨节与骨髓，连心中的思念和主意都能辨明。
For the word of God is living and operative and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit and of joints and marrow, and able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

并且被造的，没有一个在祂面前不是显明的，反而万有在我们必须向祂交账的主眼前，都是赤露敞开的。
And there is no creature that is not manifest before Him, but all things are naked and laid bare to the eyes of Him to whom we are to give our account.

众军长和加利亚的儿子约哈难，并何沙雅的儿子耶撒尼亚，以及众百姓，从最小的到至大的，都进前来，
And all the captains of the forces and Johanan the son of Kareah and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah and all the people, from the small even unto the great, came near

对申言者耶利米说，求你准我们的祈求达到你面前，为我们这余剩的众人祷告耶和华你的神；我们本来很多，现今余剩的却极少，这是你亲眼所见的。
And said to Jeremiah the prophet, Let our supplication come before you, and pray for us to Jehovah your God for all this remnant — for we are left only a few out of many, as your eyes see us —

愿耶和华你的神告诉我们所当走的路，所当作的事。
That Jehovah your God may tell us the way in which we should go and the thing which we should do.

申言者耶利米对他们说，我已经听见了。我必照着你们的话祷告耶和华你们的神；耶和华无论回答什么，我必都告诉你们，毫不隐瞒。
Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, I have heard. I will pray to Jehovah your God according to your words; and whatever Jehovah answers you, I will tell you; I will not withhold anything from you.

于是他们对耶利米说，我们若不照耶和华你的神差遣你来对我们说的一切话去行，愿耶和华作真实诚信的见证人指责我们。
And they said to Jeremiah, May Jehovah be a true and faithful witness against us if we do not do according to every word with which Jehovah your God sends you to us.

我们差你到耶和华我们的神那里，祂说的无论是好是歹，我们都必听从，好叫我们听从耶和华我们神的话，就可以得福。
Whether it is good or whether it is evil, we will listen to the voice of Jehovah our God, to whom we send you, that it may be well with us, when we listen to the voice of Jehovah our God.

过了十天，耶和华的话临到耶利米。
And at the end of ten days the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah.

他就将加利亚的儿子约哈难，和同着他的众军长并众百姓，从最小的到至大的，都叫了来，
Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces who were with him and all the people, from the small even unto the great,

对他们说，耶和华以色列的神，就是你们差我在祂面前为你们恳求的，如此说，
And said to them, Thus says Jehovah the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before Him:

你们若仍住在这地，我就建立你们并不拆毁，栽植你们并不拔出；因我为降与你们的灾祸后悔了。
If you will still remain in this land, I will build you up and not tear you down, and I will plant you and not pluck you up; for I repent of the evil which I have done to you.

不要怕你们所怕的巴比伦王。耶和华说，不要怕他，因为我与你们同在，要拯救你们脱离他的手。
Do not fear the king of Babylon, whom you fear. Do not fear him, declares Jehovah, for I am with you to save you and to deliver you from his hand.

我也要向你们施怜恤，叫他怜恤你们，使你们归回本地。
And I will show compassions to you, that he may have compassion on you and may bring you back to your own land.

倘若你们说，我们不要住在这地，以致不听从耶和华你们神的话，
But if you say, We will not remain in this land, so that you do not listen to the voice of Jehovah your God,

说，不，我们要进入埃及地，在那里我们看不见争战，听不见角声，也不至饥饿无食；我们必住在那里；
Saying, No, but we will go to the land of Egypt, where we will not see war or hear the sound of the trumpet or be hungry for bread, and we will dwell there;

你们犹大余剩的人哪，现在要听耶和华的话：万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说，你们若定意要往埃及去，在那里寄居；
Then hear now the word of Jehovah, O remnant of Judah: Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, If indeed you set your faces to go to Egypt and go to sojourn there,

你们所惧怕的刀剑，必在埃及地追上你们；你们所惧怕的饥荒，必在埃及紧紧地跟随你们；你们必死在那里。
Then the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, about which you are worried, will follow hard after you there in Egypt; and you will die there.

凡定意要进入埃及在那里寄居的，必遭刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫而死；他们必无一人存留，无人逃脱我所降与他们的灾祸。
And all the men who set their faces to go to Egypt, to sojourn there, will die by sword, by famine, and by pestilence; and they will have no survivors or any who have escaped from the evil which I will bring on them.

万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说，我怎样将我的怒气和忿怒倾在耶路撒冷的居民身上，你们进入埃及的时候，我也必照样将我的忿怒倾在你们身上。你们必成为辱骂、惊骇、咒诅、羞辱，你们不得再见这地方。
For thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, As My anger and My wrath have been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so My wrath will be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. And you will become an execration and an astonishment and a curse and a reproach, and you will see this place no more.

犹大余剩的人哪，耶和华论到你们说，不要进入埃及去！你们要确实地知道，我今日作证警告你们了。
Jehovah has spoken concerning you, O remnant of Judah, Do not go to Egypt! Know assuredly that today I have testified against you,

你们是自欺了；因为你们差我到耶和华你们的神那里，说，求你为我们祷告耶和华我们的神，照耶和华我们神一切所说的告诉我们，我们就必遵行。
That you deceived yourselves when you sent me to Jehovah your God, saying, Pray for us to Jehovah our God, and whatever Jehovah our God says, tell this to us, and we will do it.

我今日告诉你们了，但耶和华你们的神为你们的事，差遣我到你们这里说的，你们一样也没有听从。
And today I have told you, but you have not listened to the voice of Jehovah your God in anything for which He has sent me to you.

现在你们要确实地知道，你们在所要去寄居之地，必遭刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫而死。
And now therefore know assuredly that you will die by sword, by famine, and by pestilence in the place where you desire to go and sojourn.

耶利米向众百姓说完了耶和华他们神的一切话，就是耶和华他们神差遣他去对他们所说的一切话，
And when Jeremiah finished speaking to all the people all the words of Jehovah their God, with which Jehovah their God had sent him to them, all these words,

何沙雅的儿子亚撒利雅，和加利亚的儿子约哈难，并一切狂傲的人，对耶利米说，你说谎言；耶和华我们的神并没有差遣你来说，你们不可进入埃及，在那里寄居。
Azariah the son of Hoshaiah and Johanan the son of Kareah and all the proud men spoke to Jeremiah, saying, You are speaking falsehood; Jehovah our God has not sent you to say, You shall not go to Egypt to sojourn there.

这是尼利亚的儿子巴录挑唆你害我们，要将我们交在迦勒底人的手中，使他们杀死我们，或将我们迁徙到巴比伦去。
But Baruch the son of Neriah is inciting you against us so as to give us into the hand of the Chaldeans that they may put us to death or take us into exile to Babylon.

于是加利亚的儿子约哈难和一切军长，并众百姓，不听从耶和华的话住在犹大地。
So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces and all the people did not listen to the voice of Jehovah to remain in the land of Judah.

加利亚的儿子约哈难和一切军长，却将所余剩的犹大人，就是从被赶到的各国回来，要在犹大地寄居的人，
But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, who had returned from all the nations where they had been driven in order to sojourn in the land of Judah,

男人、妇女、孩童和众公主，并护卫长尼布撒拉旦所留在沙番的孙子，亚希甘的儿子基大利那里的众人，与申言者耶利米，以及尼利亚的儿子巴录，都带走了；
The men and the women and the little children and the king's daughters and every person whom Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, as well as Jeremiah the prophet and Baruch the son of Neriah;

他们进入埃及地（因他们不听从耶和华的话），到了答比匿。
And they came to the land of Egypt (for they did not listen to the voice of Jehovah) and came as far as Tahpanhes.

在答比匿耶和华的话临到耶利米，说，
Then the word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

你在犹大人眼前要用手拿几块大石头，藏在砌砖的灰泥中，就是在答比匿法老的宫门那里；
Take large stones in your hand, and hide them in the mortar in the brickwork which is at the entrance of Pharaoh's house in Tahpanhes in the sight of the Jews.

对他们说，万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说，我必打发并领来我的仆人巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒；在所藏的这些石头上，我要安置他的宝座；他必将华盖支搭在其上。
And say to them, Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, I am going to send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and I will set his throne above these stones which I have hidden; and he will spread his canopy over them.

他要来攻击埃及地：定为死亡的必至死亡，定为掳掠的必被掳掠，定为刀杀的必交刀杀。
And he will come and strike the land of Egypt: those who are for death to death, and those who are for captivity to captivity, and those who are for the sword to the sword.

我要在埃及诸神的庙中使火着起；巴比伦王要将庙宇焚烧，把他们掳去；他要披上埃及地，好像牧人披上外衣，从那里安然出去。
And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt, and he will burn them and carry them away captive; and he will wrap himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd wraps himself with his garment; and he will go out from there in peace.

他必打碎埃及地伯示麦的柱像；用火焚烧埃及诸神的庙宇。
And he will smash the pillars of Beth-shemesh, which is in the land of Egypt, and he will burn the houses of the gods of Egypt with fire.

有临到耶利米的话，论及一切住在埃及地的犹大人，就是住在密夺、答比匿、挪弗、巴忒罗地的犹大人，说，
The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews who dwelt in the land of Egypt, who dwelt at Migdol and at Tahpanhes and at Memphis and in the land of Pathros, saying,

万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说，我所降与耶路撒冷和犹大各城的一切灾祸，你们都看见了；看哪，那些城邑今日荒凉，无人居住，
Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, You have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem and upon all the cities of Judah; and see, today they are a desolation, and no one dwells in them,

这是因他们所行的恶惹我发怒，去烧香事奉别神，就是他们和你们，并你们列祖所不认识的神。
Because of their wickedness which they did to provoke Me to anger, in that they went to burn incense to serve other gods, which they did not know, neither they, you, nor your fathers.

我从早起来差遣我的仆人众申言者到你们那里去，说，你们切不要行我所恨恶这可憎之事。
Yet I sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Do not do this abominable thing which I hate.

他们却不听从，不侧耳而听，不转离恶事，仍向别神烧香。
But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, so as not to burn incense to other gods.

因此，我的忿怒和怒气都倒出来，在犹大的城邑中和耶路撒冷的街道上，如火着起，以致成为荒废凄凉，正如今日一样。
And My wrath and My anger poured forth and burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, and they became a waste and a desolation, as they are this day.

现在耶和华万军之神，以色列的神如此说，你们为何作这大恶自害己命，使你们的男人、妇女、婴孩和吃奶的，都从犹大中剪除，不留剩一人呢？
And now thus says Jehovah the God of hosts, the God of Israel, Why do you do a great evil against your souls, so as to cut off from yourselves man and woman, little one and nursing child, from the midst of Judah, leaving yourselves no remnant,

就是因你们手所作的，在所去寄居的埃及地，向别神烧香惹我发怒，使你们被剪除，在地上万国中令人咒诅、羞辱。
Provoking Me to anger with the works of your hands, burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have come to sojourn, so that you might be cut off and that you might become a curse and a reproach among all the nations of the earth?

你们列祖的恶，犹大列王和他们后妃的恶，你们自己和你们妻子的恶，就是在犹大地、耶路撒冷街上所行的，你们都忘了么？
Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and the wickedness of the kings of Judah and the wickedness of their wives and your own wickedness and the wickedness of your wives, which they did in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

你们到如今还没有痛悔，没有惧怕，没有遵行我在你们和你们列祖面前所设立的律法和条例。
They have not become contrite even to this day, nor have they feared or walked in My law or in My statutes, which I set before you and before your fathers.

所以万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说，我必向你们变脸降灾，以致剪除犹大众人。
Therefore thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, I will set My face against you for evil, even to cut off all Judah.

那定意进入埃及地在那里寄居的，就是余剩的犹大人，我必把他们除去；他们必尽都灭绝，必在埃及地仆倒，必因刀剑、饥荒灭绝；从最小的到至大的，都必遭刀剑、饥荒而死；他们必成为辱骂、惊骇、咒诅、羞辱。
And I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to go to the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they will all be consumed; in the land of Egypt they will fall; by sword and by famine they will be consumed. From the small even unto the great, by sword and by famine they will die; and they will become an execration, an astonishment, and a curse and a reproach.

我怎样用刀剑、饥荒、瘟疫惩罚耶路撒冷，也必照样惩罚那些住在埃及地的犹大人。
And I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem: with sword, with famine, and with pestilence.

甚至那些进入埃及地在那里寄居的，就是余剩的犹大人，没有一人能逃脱、幸存，而能归回犹大地，就是他们渴想归回居住之地；除了一些逃脱的以外，他们都不能归回。
And there will not be one who has escaped nor a survivor of the remnant of Judah, who went to sojourn there in the land of Egypt, even to return to the land of Judah, where they desire to return to dwell; for they will not return, except for some who will escape.

那些住在埃及地巴忒罗，知道自己妻子向别神烧香的众民，与旁边站立的众妇女聚集成大群，回答耶利米，说，
Then all the men who knew that their wives burned incense to other gods and all the women who stood by, a great assemblage, even all the people who dwelt in Pathros in the land of Egypt, answered Jeremiah, saying,

论到你奉耶和华的名向我们所说的话，我们必不听从。
As for the word which you have spoken to us in the name of Jehovah, we will not listen to you.

我们定要成就我们口中所出的一切话，向天后烧香、浇奠祭，按我们与我们列祖、君王、首领，在犹大的城邑中和耶路撒冷的街道上，素常所行的一样；因为那时我们吃饱饭，享福乐，并不见灾祸。
But we will surely do everything which has gone out of our mouth, burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out libations to her, just as we ourselves and our fathers, our kings, and our princes did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem; for we had plenty of food and were well off and did not see evil.

自从我们停止向天后烧香、浇奠祭，我们倒缺乏一切，又因刀剑、饥荒灭绝。
But since we ceased burning incense to the queen of heaven and pouring out libations to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by sword and by famine.

妇女说，我们向天后烧香、浇奠祭，作饼给她，向她浇奠祭，难道没有我们的丈夫同着么？
And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven and poured out libations to her, did we make cakes to her, making images of her and pouring out libations to her, without our husbands?

耶利米对众民，论到一切那样回答他的男女众人，说，
Then Jeremiah spoke to all the people concerning the men and concerning the women, even concerning all the people who had given him that answer, saying,

你们与你们列祖、君王、首领并这地的百姓，在犹大城邑中和耶路撒冷街道上所烧的香，耶和华岂不记得，心中岂不思想么？
As for the incense which you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your princes, and the people of the land, did not Jehovah remember them, and did it not come up in His heart?

耶和华因你们所作的恶，所行可憎的事，不能再容忍；所以你们的地成为荒凉、惊骇、咒诅，无人居住，正如今日一样。
And Jehovah was no longer able to bear it because of the evil of your deeds, because of the abominations which you committed; therefore your land has become a desolation and an astonishment and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day.

你们烧香，得罪耶和华，没有听从耶和华的话，没有遵行祂的律法、条例、法度；所以你们遭遇这灾祸，正如今日一样。
Because you burned incense and because you sinned against Jehovah and did not listen to the voice of Jehovah or walk in His law or in His statutes or in His testimonies, therefore this evil has happened to you, as it is this day.

耶利米又对众民和众妇女说，你们在埃及地的一切犹大人，当听耶和华的话：
Then Jeremiah said to all the people and to all the women, Hear the word of Jehovah, all Judah who are in the land of Egypt:

万军之耶和华以色列的神如此说，你们和你们的妻子，都口中说，手里作，说，我们定要履行所许的愿，向天后烧香、浇奠祭；现在你们只管坚立所许的愿，履行所许的愿吧。
Thus speaks Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, You and your wives have both spoken with your mouths and have fulfilled it with your hands, saying, We will surely perform our vows by which we have vowed to burn incense to the queen of heaven and to pour out libations to her. Establish then your vows, and by all means perform your vows.

所以你们住在埃及地的一切犹大人，当听耶和华的话；耶和华说，我指着我的大名起誓，在埃及全地，我的名不再被任何一个犹大人的口称呼，说，我指着主永活的耶和华起誓。
Therefore hear the word of Jehovah, all Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt, I have sworn by My great name, says Jehovah: My name shall no longer be called upon by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, As the Lord Jehovah lives.

我必向他们留意降祸不降福，在埃及地的一切犹大人必因刀剑、饥荒灭亡，直到灭尽。
I will be watchful over them for evil and not for good, and all the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by sword and by famine until there is an end of them.

逃脱刀剑，从埃及地归回犹大地的人数很少；一切余剩的犹大人，就是那些进入埃及地要在那里寄居的，必知道是谁的话立得住，是我的话呢？还是他们的话？
And those who escape the sword will return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah few in number, and all the remnant of Judah who came to the land of Egypt to sojourn there will know whose word will be established, Mine or theirs.

耶和华说，我在这地方惩罚你们，这是给你们的预兆，使你们知道我降祸与你们的话，必要立得住。
And this will be a sign to you, declares Jehovah, that I will punish you in this place, so that you will know that My words will surely be established against you for evil:

耶和华如此说，我必将埃及王法老合弗拉交在他仇敌和寻索其命的人手中，像我将犹大王西底家交在他仇敌和寻索其命的巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒手中一样。
Thus says Jehovah, I will give Pharaoh Hophra, the king of Egypt, into the hand of his enemies, into the hand of those who seek his life, just as I gave Zedekiah the king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, who was his enemy and sought his life.
