Subject:Inoculation against the Decline of the Church
Second TimothyChapter 1
Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God according to the 1promise of life, which is in Christ Jesus,
To Timothy, beloved child: Grace, 1mercy, peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
I thank God, whom I 1serve 2from my forefathers in a 3pure conscience, while unceasingly I have remembrance concerning you in my petitions night and day,
Longing to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy;
Having been reminded of the unfeigned faith in you, which 1dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded dwells also in you.
For which cause I remind you to 1fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the 2laying on of my hands.
For God has not given us a 1spirit of cowardice, but 2of power and of love and of sobermindedness.
1Therefore do 2not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord nor of me His prisoner; but suffer evil with the 3gospel 4according to the power of God;
Who has saved us and 1called us with a holy calling, not according to our works but according to His own 2purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus 3before the times of the ages
But now has been 1manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who 2nullified death and brought 3life and 4incorruption to light through the gospel,
For 1which I was appointed a 2herald and an apostle and a teacher.
For which 1cause also I suffer these things; but I am 2not ashamed, for I know 3whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that He is able to guard 4my deposit unto 5that day.
Hold a 1pattern of the 2healthy words that you have heard from me, in the 3faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
Guard the good 1deposit through the Holy Spirit who 2dwells in us.
This you know, that all who are in 1Asia 2turned away from me, of whom are 3Phygelus and Hermogenes.
May the Lord grant mercy to the house of 1Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chain;
But being in Rome, he sought me out diligently and found me.
May the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord in 1that day. And in how many things he served me in Ephesus, you know best.
Second TimothyChapter 2
You therefore, my child, be 1empowered in the 2grace which is in Christ Jesus;
And the 1things which you have heard from me through many witnesses, these 2commit to 3faithful men, who will be competent to teach others also.
Suffer evil with me as a good 1soldier of Christ Jesus.
No one serving as a soldier 1entangles himself with the affairs of this 2life, that he may please the one who enlisted him.
And also if anyone 1contends in the games, he is not 2crowned unless he contends lawfully.
The laboring 1farmer must be the first to partake of the fruit.
Consider what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in all things.
Remember Jesus Christ, 1raised from the dead, of the 2seed of David, according to 3my gospel,
In which I suffer evil unto bonds as a criminal; but the word of God is 1not bound.
Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the 1chosen ones, that they themselves also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus 2with eternal glory.
Faithful is the word: 1For if we 2died with Him, we will also 3live with Him;
If we 1endure, we will also 2reign with Him; if we deny Him, He also will 3deny us;
If we are faithless, He remains 1faithful, for He 2cannot deny Himself.
Remind them of these things, solemnly charging them before God not to have contentions of words, which is useful for nothing, to the 1ruin of those who hear.
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, an unashamed workman, 1cutting straight the word of the 2truth.
But avoid 1profane, vain babblings, for they will advance to more 2ungodliness,
And their word will 1spread like 2gangrene, of whom are Hymenaeus and Philetus,
Who concerning the 1truth have 2misaimed, saying that the resurrection has 3already taken place, and overthrow the 4faith of some.
However the firm 1foundation of God stands, having this 2seal, The Lord knows those who are His, and, Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.
1But in a 2great house there are not only 3gold and silver vessels but also 4wooden and earthen; and some are unto honor, and some unto dishonor.
If therefore anyone 1cleanses himself from 2these, he will be a vessel 3unto honor, sanctified, useful to the master, prepared unto every good work.
But flee youthful 1lusts, and pursue 2righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who 3call on the Lord out of a 4pure heart.
But 1foolish questionings and those arising from an 2untrained mind refuse, knowing that they beget contentions.
But a slave of the Lord ought not to contend but be gentle toward all, apt to teach, bearing with wrong;
In meekness correcting those who oppose, if perhaps God may give them 1repentance unto the 2full knowledge of the truth,
And they may 1return to soberness out of the 2snare of the 3devil, having been caught alive by him, unto 4His will.
Second TimothyChapter 3
1But know this, that in the 2last days 3difficult times will come.
For 1men will be 2lovers of self, lovers of money, boasters, 3arrogant, 4revilers, disobedient to parents, 5unthankful, unholy,
Without natural affection, 1implacable, slanderers, without self-control, savage, not lovers of good,
1Traitors, 2reckless, 3blinded with pride, 4lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
Having an 1outward form of godliness, though denying its 2power; from these also turn away.
For of these are those who creep into houses and take captive silly women heaped with sins, who are led by various desires
And are always learning yet never able to come to the 1full knowledge of the truth.
And in the manner that 1Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so these also oppose the 2truth; men corrupted in mind, 3disapproved concerning the 4faith.
But they will not advance farther, for their 1folly will be completely manifest to all, as also the folly of 2those became.
But you have closely followed my teaching, 1conduct, 2purpose, faith, long-suffering, love, endurance,
Persecutions, sufferings, such as befell me in Antioch, in Iconium, in 1Lystra. Such persecutions I bore, and out of them all the Lord delivered me.
And indeed all who 1desire to 2live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
But evil men and 1impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived.
But you, 1continue in the 2things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from which ones you have learned them
1And that from a babe you have known the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through the 2faith which is in Christ Jesus.
1All Scripture is 2God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for 3conviction, for 4correction, for 5instruction in righteousness,
That the 1man of God may be 2complete, fully 3equipped for every good work.
Second TimothyChapter 4
I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is to 1judge the living and the dead, and by 2His appearing and His kingdom:
Proclaim the 1word; 2be ready 3in season and out of season; convict, 4rebuke, exhort with 5all long-suffering and teaching.
For the 1time will come when they will not tolerate the 2healthy teaching; but according to their own lusts they will heap up to themselves teachers, having 3itching ears,
And they will 1turn away their ear from the 2truth and will be turned aside to 3myths.
But you, be sober in all things, suffer evil, do the work of an evangelist, 1fully accomplish your 2ministry.
For I am already being 1poured out, and the time of my 2departure is at hand.
I have 1fought the good fight; I have 2finished the course; I have kept the faith.
Henceforth there is 1laid up for me the 2crown of righteousness, with which the Lord, the 3righteous Judge, will recompense me in 4that day, and not only me but also all those who have loved His 5appearing.
Be diligent to come to me quickly;
For Demas has abandoned me, having 1loved the present age, and has gone to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia; Titus to 2Dalmatia.
Luke alone is with me. Take Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for the ministry.
But Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.
The 1cloak which I left in 2Troas with Carpus, bring when you come, and the 3scrolls, especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith did many evil things to me; the Lord will recompense him according to his works.
You also guard against him, for he greatly opposed our words.
At my first defense no one was with me to support me, but all abandoned me. May it not be counted against them.
But the Lord stood with me and empowered me that through me the proclamation of the gospel might be fully accomplished and all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the 1lion's mouth.
The Lord will deliver me from every evil work and will save me into His 1heavenly kingdom, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Greet Prisca and Aquila and the house of Onesiphorus.
Erastus remained in Corinth, and Trophimus I left at 1Miletus 2sick.
Be diligent to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, as well as Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers.
The Lord be with your 1spirit. 2Grace be with you.
