Or are you ignorant, brothers (for I speak to those who know the law), that the  ¹law lords it over the man as long as he lives?

For the married woman is bound by the  ¹law to her  ²husband while he is living; but if the husband dies, she is discharged from the  ¹law regarding the husband.

So then if, while the husband is living, she is joined to  ¹another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress, though she is joined to  ¹another man.

So then, my brothers,  ¹you also have been made dead to the law through the body of Christ so that  ¹you might be  ²joined to another, to Him who has been raised from the dead, that we might  ³bear fruit to God.

For when we were in the flesh, the passions for sins, which acted through the law, operated in our members to bear fruit to death.

But now we have been  ¹discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held, so that we  ²serve in  ³newness of  ⁴spirit and not in oldness of letter.

What then shall we say? Is the law sin? Absolutely not! But  ¹I did not know sin except through the  ²law; for neither did I know coveting, except the law had said,  ³“You shall not covet.”

But  ¹sin, seizing the opportunity through the commandment, worked out in me coveting of every kind; for without the law sin is dead.

And I was alive without the law once; but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

And the commandment, which was unto life, this very commandment was found to me to be unto  ¹death.

For sin, seizing the opportunity  ¹through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.

So then the law is holy, and the commandment holy and righteous and good.

Did then that which is good become death to me? Absolutely not! But sin did, that it might  ¹be shown to be sin by working out death in me through that which is good, that sin through the commandment might become exceedingly sinful.

For we  ¹know that the law is  ²spiritual; but I am  ³fleshy, sold under sin.

For what I work out, I  ¹do not acknowledge; for what I will, this I do not practice; but what I hate, this I do.

But if what I do not will, this I do, I agree with the law that it is good.

Now then it is no longer I that work it out but sin that  ¹dwells in me.

For I  ¹know that in me, that is, in my  ²flesh,  ³nothing good dwells; for  ⁴to will is present with me, but to work out the good is not.

For I do not do the good which I will; but the evil which I do not will, this I practice.

But if what I do not will, this I do, it is no longer I that work it out but sin that dwells in me.

I find then  ¹the law with me who wills to do the good, that is, the  ²evil is present with me.

For I delight in the  ¹law of God according to the inner man,

But I see a different  ¹law in my members,  ²warring against the law of my mind and making me a  ³captive to the law of sin which is in my members.

 ¹Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from  ²the body of  ³this death?

Thanks be to God, through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then  ¹with the mind I myself  ²serve the law of God, but with the flesh, the  ³law of sin.

O Jehovah, in Your strength the king rejoices,
And in Your salvation how greatly does he exult.

You have given him his heart's desire
And have not withheld the request of his lips.Selah

For You meet him with blessings of goodness;
You have set a crown of refined gold on his head.

You who fear Jehovah,  ¹praise Him!
All you seed of Jacob, glorify Him!
And stand in awe of Him, all you seed of Israel!

For He has not despised nor detested
The affliction of him who is afflicted;
And He has not hidden His face from him;
But when he cried out to Him, He heard.

From You comes my praise in the great assembly;
My vows will I pay before those who fear Him.

The lowly will eat and be satisfied;

All the ends of the earth
Will remember and return to Jehovah,

For the kingdom is Jehovah's,

Even he who does not keep his soul alive.

A  ¹seed will serve Him;
That which concerns the Lord will be told to a coming generation.

My eyes are continually turned to Jehovah,

And bring me out of my distresses.

Look on my affliction and my suffering,
