the people of Israel. Theirs is the adoption as sons; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises.

But it is not as though the word of God has fallen away, for not all who are out of Israel are Israel;

Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Not however as though the word of God had failed; for not all [are] Israel which [are] of Israel;

And it is not possible that the word of God hath failed; for not all who are of Israel are these Israel;

It is not as though God's word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel.

也不因为是亚伯拉罕的后裔,就都是儿女,惟独“从以撒生的,才要称为你的后裔。”

That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are the children of God, but the children of the promise are accounted as the seed.

In other words, it is not the natural children who are God's children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as Abraham's offspring.

For this is the word of promise, "At this time next year I will come, and Sarah shall have a son."

What then shall we say? Is there unrighteousness with God? Absolutely not!

For to Moses He says, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion."

So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very thing I have raised you up, that I might show in you My power, and that My name might be proclaimed in all the earth."

For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh: "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth."

So then He has mercy on whom He wills, and He hardens whom He wills.

Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.

So then, to whom he will he shews mercy, and whom he will he hardens.

so, then, to whom He willeth, He doth kindness, and to whom He willeth, He doth harden.

Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

Ἐρεῖς μοι οὖν, Τί [οὖν] ἔτι μέμφεται; τῷ γὰρ βουλήματι αὐτοῦ τίς ἀνθέστηκεν;

You will say to me then, Why does He still find fault? For who withstands His will?

Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?

Thou wilt say to me then, Why does he yet find fault? for who resists his purpose?

Thou wilt say, then, to me, 'Why yet doth He find fault? for His counsel who hath resisted?'
I
One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?"

人哪,你是谁,竟向神顶嘴?被塑造者岂能对塑造他者说,你为什么这样造我?

你这个人哪,你是谁,竟敢向神强嘴呢?受造之物岂能对造他的说:“你为什么这样造我呢?”

你这个人哪,你是谁,竟敢跟神顶嘴呢?被造的怎么可以对造他的说:“你为什么把我做成这个样子呢?”

人呀!你是谁,竟敢向天主抗辩?制造品岂能对制造者说:你为什么这样制造了我?
吕
但是人哪,你到底是谁,你这跟上帝顶嘴的?被塑造的哪能对塑造他的说:‘你为什么造我像这样呢?’
直
噢!你这人哪,到底你…是谁呢?这向神顶嘴的,难道受造之物对创造他的说:你为什么这样造我呢?

ὦ ἄνθρωπε, μενοῦνγε σὺ τίς εἶ ὁ ἀνταποκρινόμενος τῷ θεῷ; μὴ ἐρεῖ τὸ πλάσμα τῷ πλάσαντι, Τί με ἐποίησας οὕτως;

But rather, O man, who are you who answer back to God? Shall the thing molded say to him who molded it, Why did you make me thus?

Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

Aye, but thou, O man, who art *thou* that answerest again to God? Shall the thing formed say to him that has formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

nay, but, O man, who art thou that art answering again to God? shall the thing formed say to Him who did form it, Why me didst thou make thus?
I
But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' "

窑匠难道没有权柄,从同一团泥里,拿一块作成贵重的器皿,又拿一块作成卑贱的器皿么?

窑匠难道没有权柄从一团泥里拿一块作成贵重的器皿,又拿一块作成卑贱的器皿吗?

陶匠难道没有权用同一团的泥,又做贵重的、又做卑贱的器皿吗?

难道陶工不能随意用一团泥,把这一个作成贵重的器皿,把那一个作成卑贱的器皿吗?

窑匠对泥土难道没有权柄从同一团泥作器皿,有的作成贵重的,有的作成下贱的么?

或是难道…没有权柄,窑匠之于黏土.从他的泥团里做.一个为贵重的器皿,而另一个为卑贱的吗?

ἢ οὐκ ἔχει ἐξουσίαν ὁ κεραμεὺς τοῦ πηλοῦ ἐκ τοῦ αὐτοῦ φυράματος ποιῆσαι ὃ μὲν εἰς τιμὴν σκεῦος ὃ δὲ εἰς ἀτιμίαν;

Or does not the potter have authority over the clay to make out of the same lump one vessel unto honor and another unto dishonor?

若是神愿意显示祂的忿怒,彰显祂的能力,就多用恒忍宽容那些可怒、预备遭毁灭的器皿,

倘若神要显明他的忿怒,彰显他的权能,就多多忍耐宽容那可怒、预备遭毁灭的器皿;

如果神有意要显明他的忿怒,彰显他的大能,而多多容忍那可怒、预备遭毁灭的器皿,

如果天主愿意显示自己的义怒,并彰显自己的威能,曾以宽宏大量,容忍了那些惹他发怒而应受毁灭的器皿;

倘若上帝虽有意要证显他的义怒,播知他的能力,却用大恒忍宽容那应受义怒的、准备进入灭亡的、器皿,

并且倘若神想要显明忿怒,又彰显他的权能,就带…许多的忍耐宽容,给那可怒预备遭毁灭的器皿

又要将他丰盛的荣耀彰显在那蒙怜悯、早预备得荣耀的器皿上。

为了要使他丰盛的荣耀,彰显在那蒙恩、早已预备要得荣耀的器皿上,这又有什么不可呢?

他如此作,是为把他那丰富的光荣,在那些他早已准备好,为进入光荣而蒙怜悯的器皿身上彰显出来,又有什么不可呢?

为要播知他荣耀之丰富是赐给那蒙怜悯的、那早预备好了、可进入‘荣耀’的、器皿,就怎么样呢?他所宽容的

In order that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory,

And Isaiah cries concerning Israel, "Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that shall be saved;

因为主要在地上实行祂的话,要将祂的话完成且截短。”

For the Lord will execute His word upon the earth, accomplishing it and cutting it short."

For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

for [he] is bringing the matter to an end, and [cutting [it] short in righteousness; because] a cutting short of the matter will [the] Lord accomplish upon the earth.

for a matter He is finishing, and is cutting short in righteousness, because a matter cut short will the Lord do upon the land.

For the Lord will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality."

这样,我们可怎么说呢?那不追求义的外国人倒追着了义、那本着信的义;

所以我们要说什么呢?那不追求公义的外邦人.得了公义,公义.就是那出自信心的,

Τί οὖν ἐροῦμεν; ὅτι ἔθνη τὰ μὴ διώκοντα δικαιοσύνην κατέλαβεν δικαιοσύνην, δικαιοσύνην δὲ τὴν ἐκ πίστεως,

What then shall we say? That the Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have laid hold of righteousness, but a righteousness which is out of faith;

What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

What then shall we say? That [they of the] nations, who did not follow after righteousness, have attained righteousness, but [the] righteousness that is on the principle of faith.

What, then, shall we say? that nations who are not pursuing righteousness did attain to righteousness, and righteousness that is of faith,

What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;

But Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, did not attain to that law.

But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

But Israel, pursuing after a law of righteousness, has not attained to [that] law.

and Israel, pursuing a law of righteousness, at a law of righteousness did not arrive;
I
but Israel, who pursued a law of righteousness, has not attained it.

这是为什么?因为不是本于信,而是本于行。他们正碰跌在那绊脚石上,

这是什么缘故呢?是因为他们不凭着信心求,只凭着行为求,他们正跌在那绊脚石上。

因为什么缘故呢?因为不凭着信心,反而像是凭着行为,他们正跌在那绊脚石上。

διὰ τί; ὅτι οὐκ ἐκ πίστεως ἀλλ᾽ ὡς ἐξ ἔργων· προσέκοψαν τῷ λίθῳ τοῦ προσκόμματος,
R
Why? Because they pursued it not out of faith, but as it were out of works. They stumbled at the stone of stumbling,
K
Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone;
D
Wherefore? Because [it was] not on the principle of faith, but as of works. They have stumbled at the stumblingstone,
Y
wherefore? because -- not by faith, but as by works of law; for they did stumble at the stone of stumbling,
I
Why not? Because they pursued it not by faith but as if it were by works. They stumbled over the "stumbling stone."

就如经上所记:“看哪,我在锡安放一块绊脚的石头,并跌人的磐石,信靠祂的,必不至于羞愧。”
和
就如经上所记:“我在锡安放一块绊脚的石头,跌人的磐石,信靠他的人必不至于羞愧。”

正如经上所记:“看哪,我在锡安放了一块绊脚石,是绊倒人的磐石;信靠他的人,必不致失望。”

正如经上所载:‘看,我在熙雍按放了一块绊脚石,一块使人绊跌的磐石;相信他的人,不至蒙羞。’

正如经上所记:“你看,我把一块碰脚的石头、令人绊跌的磐石放在锡安,信靠他的必不至于失望。”

如同所记载:看哪!我放置在锡安.绊脚的石头,和使人绊跌的磐石;且那信靠他的人.必不羞愧。

καθὼς γέγραπται, Ἰδοὺ τίθημι ἐν Σιὼν λίθον προσκόμματος καὶ πέτραν σκανδάλου, καὶ ὁ πιστεύων ἐπ᾽ αὐτῷ οὐ καταισχυνθήσεται.

As it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling, a rock of offense, and he who believes on Him shall not be put to shame."

As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

according as it is written, Behold, I place in Zion a stone of stumbling and rock of offence: and he that believes on him shall not be ashamed.

according as it hath been written, 'Lo, I place in Sion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence; and every one who is believing thereon shall not be ashamed.'

As it is written: "See, I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
